Join one of our 30 Day Yoga Challenges! We love the yoga challenge because it calls us to look at our everyday habits. We have the opportunity to observe where our inconsistencies show up—not just when it comes to rolling out our yoga mats, but other places where our habits are influencing the direction our lives are headed. For most of us, it’s not that we consciously decide to stop being consistent with our yoga practice—it’s that life, meaning the habits that we form for better or worse, start to get in the way of our commitment and our enjoyment of our practice.
The philosopher Aristotle nailed it on the head when he said: “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.”
To form a habit, all you need to do is repeat the activity over a period of time. Most people agree that it takes anywhere from three to five weeks of mindful, consistent, repetitive, and focused behavior to develop a new good habit. It’s not always easy, but the end results are almost always worth it!
